Dolgellau Gwynedd

Client: Forestry Commission.

Contractor: Williams Homes Ltd. - Bala

Designer/Architect: Architype.

A particular feature of this project was the use of load bearing timber framed panels formed with small sections of timber fixed together with circular dowels placed horizontally - the intention was to use timber sourced from the surrounding forest which is not used for structural purposes as it has too many naturally occuring defects and, is more likely to end up as a board product. However as the panels are formed in way similar to plywood they achieve considerable strength - the tricky bit is to stop it moving. It was a good idea however due to reasons that escape me we ended up sourcing UK converted sections which made life easier for Williams but somewhat missed the point. Ross undertook the detailed design of the timber frame working with Integral the Project Engineers.
