Larch House

Ebbw Vale Gwent

Client: Blaneau Gwent County Borough

Architect: Bere Architects

Contractor: Pendragon Design and Build

This scheme consisted of two prototype social house types - Justin Bere kindly invited us to be part of the design team competing for the right to construct this land mark building.

The Larch House was the UK’s first zero carbon, low cost Passivhaus, built as social housing and launched at the 2010 National Eisteddfod for Wales.

The construction was a fast build where its structure and fabric took 14 weeks to build, before being fitted out with bathrooms and kitchens. The closed panel timber frame system was developed using locally sourced Welsh timber.
